About
"Tim Vidra, unfailingly makes me want to jump through my screen into his food pictorials. He can't get any more local unless he becomes a plant." - Robey Martin, Style Weekly

Specializing in freelance food and product photography, food styling, writing and social media — I like to tell people that I was born hungry.
An avid home cook, I believe in using simple ingredients, local when possible and am inspired by the principles of supporting a sustainable food system. I’ve cultivated this blog as a way to share my passion for the preparation and enjoyment of food in a way that everyone from beginners to long time foodies can get involved in.
With the support of regular readers and blog visitors, what started as a creative outlet has grown into something that helps support our family. In fact, just over 3 years ago I was able to quit my full time day job in the corporate world to focus on doing and sharing what I love.
Virginia raised, my ties to food are deep rooted — I fondly recall my Hungarian grandmother citing "if you don't kill it, pluck it or grow it, I'm not eating it" as I spent hours with her in my grandparents’ backyard garden throughout childhood. Now living in the city, I’m deeply inspired by these basic principles and you’ll typically find me trying my hand at growing food, cooking with local ingredients or tirelessly seeking out a new eat-spot while traveling.
I’m humbled to have had many of my recipes, photography and writing featured across Virginia publications and you may have seen me leading cooking demos across the Richmond area. In addition to authoring this blog I also jointly collaborate and write regularly with my wife on our Lifestyle Blog, 17Apart — feel free to click through to explore examples of my work below:
