The Ultimate Tuna Sandwich
Thoughts and prayers go out to all the folks affected by hurricane Sandy this week. I have to say we were lucky as it skipped by Richmond with basically rain and a little wind. As you may recall, I was in New York a couple if weeks ago and I was literally walking the neighborhoods that are now under water!
While in New York I had been wanting to get by BKLYN Larder for some time and this trip was it. So what did I find? Absolutely, hands down, the best tuna fish sandwich I have ever had! What did I learn? Anchovies seem to be the hot ingredient right now, as I was seeing it everywhere and that could not make me happier!
Ingredients: (For two Sandwiches)
- 1 can of good quality tuna in oil
- 2 tablespoons capers
- 1/2 lemon squeezed
- Fresh ground pepper
- 1 hard boiled egg, sliced
- Mayonnaise
- 2-4 anchovy filets
- Crusty bread
The capers in the tuna matched with the additional saltiness of the anchovy and the creamy mayonnaise is a sandwich I will regularly make at home and order every time I am stopping into BKLYN Larder! I might not have nailed it exactly, but this is my take on The Ultimate Tuna Sandwich!
Hope you are also a fan of anchovies because later in the week I am making an anchovy dressing for an organic kale salad that you won't want to miss.
