I have an apple peeler (not cool looking vintage like yours--it came from Bed Bath & Beyond!) and it is perfect for making apple tart. Also works on potatos!
ReplyDeleteI am going to have to try a potato. Do not see why that would not work! Thanks for thought and idea!
ReplyDeleteMy great grandfather, William Morris Griscom, owned the Reading Hardware Company and held the patent for this peeler! Little piece of history, here!
ReplyDeleteWow, Lydia things like that are what makes this blog worth doing. I always think of this piece as quite the mechanical wonder! Thanks so much for stopping by.

I was just going through the barn my grandparents owned while they were living, and found that exact apple peeler. I remember using that as a child back in the 80's!

I have one--and is it ever rusty--do I leave it alone and display it or should I have it refurbished???
ReplyDeleteI have one that has no patent info on the top! Just wonder if it is an original first made peeler
ReplyDeleteI donated an apple peeler made by Reading Hardware Co. to the Historical Society in the area where my grandparents lived. Can anyone tell me the value of such a peeler in very good condition?
